FINAL PROJECT AND DEVELOPMENT

FINAL PROJECT:

POSTER:

PRODUCTION:

These shots were filmed first as we thought they'd be the easy ones to film as well as sit according to the color grade. We shot this as well as the rest of the project near my house. The Medley Shots themselves were relatively simple. However, there are still some scenes which were difficult to shoot. For the opening scene, we first went on a highway at night to shoot the first scene but after taking 2 or 3 shots, it didn't give us the desired haunted vibe. We then came back to search for the road which gave us a haunted vibe. After a while we found a road which was located about 8 to 10 minutes away from my house. But the street lamps made it a little difficult to continue with. However, my group partner who was in charge of production design and the surrounding such as lighting etc, had an idea to place a ring light. This allowed us to light the shots better, whilst also keeping the Mise-en-scene in check. We then tried to film the scene where the ghost had to appear in front of the car but unfortunately, the scene did not look good and didn't sit well according to what we had expected. After a while with some planning the next day we finally able to shoot the scene.

THE MAIN SCENE AND ENDING:

We knew the main scene where the ghost appears is the most difficult scene to light and so we decided to film it after we already have a bit of experience working together. My group partner and I spent some time beforehand testing different angels and lighting setups, but we couldn't find something that worked well. On the day of the shoot, we had an idea to place the ring light on the passenger seat to ensure even and soft lighting for the shot. This setup helps eliminate harsh shadows and creates a flattering glow on the subject.

An easier shot was the medium shot when the driver exits the car and goes to the front of the car to see who is causing the noise. This scene did not take too much time to shoot. But on the next scene when the driver cam back in the car, its become difficult to shoot the scene because we take 4 shots of the scene but everytime the lighting  wasn't coming out well. So we decided to shoot the scene from the sunroof of the car and placed the ring light on top of the car.

And the last scene where the driver saw the from the rear view mirror, it also takes some time. We had several failed attempts for this shot. First, the camera wasn't adjusting properly, but after a lot of effort, we managed to adjust it and took the shot.

We then filmed a few extra montage shots, just in case we needed them.

And with our Filming/ production process came to an end.

PERSONAL CONTRIBUTION:

We had already decided our roles beforehand. I was the writer, co-director, editor and the Director of Photography.

Our group was just me and Muntaha; who was the co-director, the production designer and was in charge of lighting.

During filming, we decided to make some changes to our movie's script, such as having the ghost suddenly appear in front of the car. Although this new script brought some challenges, it added a lot of suspense to our movie.

POST PRODUCTION:

Due to my role as editor during the preliminaries, I already had a bunch if experience in using the editing software (CAPCUT) which made the editing process a lot easier than it otherwise would've been.

We edited on my mobile phone, which meant i did most of the physical editing, however my group partner had an influence on editing decisions and we edited most of the project together.

The first step was to place the clips into the timeline and know when and when not to cut. This seems very simple, but is extremely important in setting the correct pace of your film.

I already knew the song i wanted to use early on so i dropped it into the timeline before anything else. We opted for the song 'FADED'. It have a more somber or reflective contrast to any intense or dramatic on-screen moments. We used this contrast to symbolize the duality of appearances on the surface, everything seems calm, even inviting, but beneath it lies something much darker. Just like the haunting tones of 'Faded,' which reflect the hidden fears and despair lurking beneath the facade.

EDITING:

I added the song at the start of my movie. The song was stopped in the scene when the driver received a phone call.  After that, I added cuts to join the movie scenes, which I will now attach with the picture below. To make the scene appear brighter, I slightly increased the contrast. I added captions to the conversation the driver had with his mom on the phone using Cap Cut.

In this scene, we used a cut and attached it to the other scene.

AUDIO MIXING:

First, at the start of the movie, we used the song "Faded" by Alan Walker. Then, when the driver received the phone call, we stopped the song and added the ringtone. During the conversation, we kept the song at low volume, and as soon as the conversation ended, we played the song again on high volume.

When the ghost appeared in front of the car, we. used the sound of glass breaking, which sounded very real. When he got out of the car, we added haunted sounds like creepy noises and some animal sounds.

Then, when he sat back in the car, we mixed two audio tracks to match his conversation. All of these sound effects were added using CapCut.

AUDIOS WE USED:

We use 2 3 more audios but I cannot find that on Youtube that why I am not posting that here. But that sounds are horror.

SOCIAL MEDIA REACTIONS:

We sent the project to a few classmates in order to receive some more feedback, these were the best responses.

COLOR GRADING AND VFX:

We didn't use Color Grading or VFX in our movie. We just apply the filter from cap cut where we edited our movie.

PRELIMINARIES

PRELIMINARY 1 - CHARACTER INTRODUCTION: I shot this movie at my friend's house, and he helped me a lot in setting up the camera angles and during editing. The idea for this movie came to my mind about how we should shoot it, but when we started filming, we faced some difficulties. However, my friend helped me overcome them, and we managed to shoot it successfully. I have seen many horror movies with similar scenes, which is why this idea was in my mind. I have watched a lot of horror movies, basically, I like the horror genre, which is why I mostly watch horror films, and that's how this idea came to me.                                                                  Me editing the footage  For editing, I used CapCut, where I also used my own voice and added some sounds from YouTube, such as a clock ticking sound...

CREATIVE CRITICAL REFLECTION

Q1: HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE OR CHALLENGE CONVENTIONS AND HOE DOES IT REPRESENT SOCIAL GROUPS OR ISSUES? THE FIRST CREATIVE CRITICAL REFLECTION QUESTION. Hi, my name is Umer Raza, and my film is a horror story that both embraces and challenges the traditional conventions of the genre. In this video, I’m going to talk about how my movie plays with classic horror tropes, where it breaks the mold, and how it explores deeper social issues through its eerie storyline. My movie really taps into classic horror conventions, like creepy, atmospheric settings. The story takes place on a desolate, dark road, and right from the start, that isolation creates this feeling of vulnerability for the main character. The suspense builds slowly, with these quiet, tense moments where you just know something isn’t right, and it keeps the audience on edge. We also play with the fear of the unknown, rather than revealing the source of the terror immediately, we let it linger, building that unease. Th...
